The Eurasian Lynx is the largest of the lynxes. Its natural habitat is forested and mountainous and can be found in greatest numbers in eastern Siberia, but is also found throughout Europe. The lynx is most closely related to the bobcat.
They are still considered endangered, but in the mid-1900’s they were virtually extinct as a result of extensive fur trading. Strict regulations have helped to slow the decline and re-establish the wild population.
They can grow up to 4’ (1.2m) long and live for about 14 years. The lynx is strictly carnivorous, feeding on small mammals (like rabbit, fox and small deer). They can run very fast, but only for short distances, and instead prefer to attack their prey from close range. Lynxes are generally nocturnal (being most active at night). During the day they tend to sleep which is why they can usually be seen lying together underneath the trees.
