Flamingo Land Reaches Out to Schools in Yorkshire

Each year, thousands of students at every level, from early years to post-16, visit the Flamingo Land zoo to learn more about the world around them.

Flamingo Land plays an active role in conservation and environmental education. This is increasingly relevant, due to the continued urbanisation of many areas of the world, as zoos may represent the most accessible destination for people wishing to get in touch with wildlife.

Flamingo Land’s Education Team has recently revamped their Education Programmes to link with the most up-to-date version of the National Curriculum. They now offer a wide range of workshops, guided tours and ‘Meet a Creature’ sessions, covering topics from care and respect for animals to conservation and captive breeding. Talks on business studies and marketing have also been introduced.

Although Educational Visits already attract a substantial discount compared to Flamingo Land’s group rates, this Winter we want to educate as many pupils as possible – so we’re are offering schools in Yorkshire the opportunity to visit for an Educational Session at £1 per head. This may be extended further afield, subject to availability.

This offer applies from December 2013 to February 2014, whilst we’re closed to the public. So, visiting schools will have exclusive access to the zoo and Education Centre.

For schools that are unable to attend Flamingo Land, we also provide a popular outreach programme.

So, if you’re a teacher and are considering bringing your school to Flamingo Land, please contact us for the most up-to-date list of activities on offer. You can call on 01653 668 287 (Extension 225), or email zooeducation@flamingoland.co.uk

If you are an interested parent, you could ask your child’s school to consider this opportunity.
