Description

We are now looking for a team of NPLQ qualified Lifeguards to work in our fabulous Leisure Centre. Would like to train to become a Lifeguard and work in our Leisure Centre?

Your main duties will be:

  • Supervising the pool at all times
    • Adhering to health and safety procedures
  • Carrying out rescues when required
  • General poolside cleaning
  • Reporting to the manager on site

You will also be part of the wider Leisure Centre Team so you will also be required to assist in the following areas when not on a poolside rota

  • Reception and admin duties
  • Help clean and tidy
    • Changing Rooms
    • Gymnasium
    • Sauna
    • Steam Room
    • Public Access areas
  • Assist with the operation of the Poolside Cafe
  • Assist in Customer Activities such as (full training given)
    • Archery
    • Zorbing
    • Football
    • General Team games

Essential Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • NPLQ valid qualification
  • Ability to work in a front-line customer facing environment.
  • Be able to work flexible hours and weekends
  • Be able to work on your own ability/ initiative and as part of a group
  • Giving out information on all aspects of our operation, including theme park, zoo and holiday village

Lifeguard Course Prerequisites  

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

About the course

The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ are in three sections, and candidates must successfully pass all to attain the qualification.

Element 1 – The Lifeguard and the Law
Element 2 – Swimming Pool, Hazards and Control Measures
Element 3 – Swimming Pool Supervision

Section 2 – Intervention and Rescue and Emergency Action Plans

Element 1 – Intervention and Rescue
Element 2 – Rescue of a Casualty with a Suspected Spinal Injury
Element 3 – Emergency Action Plan

Section 3 – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid

Element 1 – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Element 2 – First Aid
Element 3 – Automated External Defibrillation (AED)


About the assessment

Assessment for the NPLQ takes place at the end of the course. It determines your knowledge and understanding of the principles of working as a pool lifeguard and assesses your ability to apply the skills and knowledge in a work-related environment.

The assessment is split into three sections:

  • Practical pool assessment
  • Theory Assessment for all three sections
  • Practical First Aid & CPR assessment

 

*If you are unsuccessful in passing the NPLQ course we will look to employ you in an alternative role that would be mutually agreed and a suitable role being available.

Hours

Most of our seasonal roles are available on a full time and part time basis. Typically a full time role is up to 40 hours a week, our part time roles are often 16 to 24 hours a week in term times increasing during university, college and school holidays. Our busiest trading days are weekends, holidays and bank holidays therefore it is to be expected we will need our Team to be available to ensure our Guests have the experience they deserve.

Transport

We provide on site free parking. There are good local bus links into Malton, York, Pickering & Thornton Dale provided by Coastliner. There will be a direct bus from Scarborough and the enroute villages. The Tees Valley bus will have stops at Stockton, Middlesbrough, Grangetown, Redcar, Saltburn, Brotton, Skelton & Guisborough.

Accommodation

There is a good range of local accommodation providers within our immediate vicinity. Flamingo Land does not provide any onsite staff accommodation.

Interviews

We will commence online interviews from mid January 

Contract

Employment for our Summer seasonal roles will commence from mid March and continue up until the summer.

All seasonal roles will end on the 5th November 2023
