What is the right role for me?

With so many roles to choose from we understand that it can be tricky trying to decide what might suit you best. Our Recruitment Team have the expert knowledge of all the roles available and can help you make the right choice. The main thing we want from you is your fun enthusiastic character, we can then train you for the job

The fussy bits

Before we can employ anyone we need to carry out ‘Right To Work’ checks. So be sure to keep confirmation of your NI (National Insurance Number) when it arrives as we will need to see that before you start (unless your 16th birthday is after 24/06/21). We would also need to see your birth certificate or passport.

We would pay you every week directly into your bank or building society account. You will need the account number and sort code which you would give us when you start. We understand that some of you may not have an account so you would need to ask a parent or guardian if you could use theirs.

What is it like on your first few days?

First days are often a bit scary so we try to make your journey as smooth as possible. We ensure you know exactly what you will be doing and when. We will make sure you know what you need to bring, how you will get to us, what you need to wear and also what to do about lunch.

Our Recruitment Team will help you with your contract of employment, they will help you learn about the park, introduce you to your colleagues and then teach you everything you need to know about Flamingo Land. The induction days are interactive so you get lots of opportunities to ask questions and learn.

Remember we want you to be happy so we will go that extra mile to ensure you have a great experience when you join us!

Typically the induction lasts for 2 days. Your 3rd day with us will see you begin to work with your department. Every area of the park is different so the training for your role may be a fairly simple or slightly more complex. To learn your roles properly will take time, we are talking days not hours so don’t put yourself under pressure and think you need to learn everything in a day. Typically in Catering, Retail, Admissions & Games you would learn about cash and till training. Catering Team need to take tests on food hygiene and allergens. Rides Assistants have to go through training and then examination. As the safety and enjoyment of our guests is paramount we will ensure that you receive the best possible training. Training is ongoing and as you master one task we can then introduce more into your role.

What about days off, holidays, Exam results days and college taster days?

We know these things are important to you, just give us the dates of your Exam results day & College taster days and we will schedule you to be off on those days.

Under the ‘Working Times Regulations’ we are bound by law to ensure that you have the correct breaks, have two consecutive days off, work no more than 40 hours and do not work into the evening. You will be given a rota in advance so you will know when we need you.

As we are a major tourist attraction our busiest trading periods are school holidays and weekends. We therefore generally look for our Seasonal Team to be available to work most weekends and throughout the summer. We understand that you may have a family holiday booked, we would just require confirmation of the dates with plenty of notice so we can plan for cover.

Ok but what happens when I go back to college?

The college term start date for 2022 is Monday 5th September so we know that your availability and commitment to us will change. August bank holiday is traditionally our busiest week, we often have events like Party In The Park on so we will definitely be needing you then. Many of you would want to remain with us and pick up weekend shifts, extra shifts over the Halloween & Christmas Seasons which would be fabulous. Lots of our Team come back year after year as they progress through college then university.

Many of our Seasonal Team gain promotions, work in other departments and some have joined us permanently into roles such as engineering and accounts, others have gained Apprenticeships in catering, accounts, engineering or IT. Some of you may finish within the first week of September as you prepare for your next adventure in life.

I’ve not seen anything about how I could get a job in the Zoo, why?

Getting a job in the Zoo would require a few things.

  • Qualifications such as a level 3 in Animal Management. You would learn all about animal care(collections) The courses cover the science behind animal behaviour, do work experience and gain practical skills.
  • Most probably a Zoo based degree
  • Definitely zoo volunteering experience

Any jobs in the Zoo would be advertised on the BIAZA website
